FM: Interact and FM:Space - Two Powerful Workplace Management Solutions

National Aquarium in Baltimore Selects FM:Interact to Manage Preventative Maintenance for Critical Exhibit Support Systems

Web-based accessibility will give staff anytime-anywhere access to maintenance information for equipment that supports delicate ecosystems

Raleigh, N.C – August,1 2006 – FM:Systems, a provider of integrated workplace management systems (IWMS), today announced that the National Aquarium in Baltimore will utilize its flagship product, FM:Interact, to manage preventative maintenance for thousands of pieces of exhibit support equipment. The National Aquarium in Baltimore is home to approximately 16,500 specimens and more than 660 species of animals, including amphibians, birds, fish, invertebrates, mammals, and reptiles.

In order to maintain the delicate ecosystems within the Aquarium’s exhibits, proper and efficient management of each exhibit’s support systems is imperative due to the sensitivity of the animals. For instance, in one tank, if the water temperature rises by just four degrees, all of the fish within the tank will die. There are 125 exhibit support systems with thousands of pieces of equipment within the aquarium which require preventative maintenance.

“For each exhibit, we track the status of the animals’ health and monitor the operating status of the equipment, but we needed software that could help us ensure that equipment was being properly cared for to minimize the risk of system failure,” stated Hans Keller, Chief Technology Officer for the Aquarium. “FM:Interact will help us keep track of maintenance schedules for all the equipment and we can tie each specific piece of equipment back to its system. This will help us make sure each exhibit support system will continue to run smoothly. Because FM:Interact is easily accessible and secure, it will consolidate all of the information with the flexibility we need.”

“We are committed to serving our customer’s facility management needs and are certain that the National Aquarium will realize these important benefits from using our solutions,” said Michael Schley, CEO and founder of FM:Systems. “It is an honor to be chosen to help manage such sensitive and critical systems and, while most of our customers manage more traditional building systems, this unique application demonstrates the reliability, power, and flexibility inherent in FM:Interact.”
