Raleigh/Durham Area
The Raleigh/Durham area is consistently named as one of the best places to live in the U.S. in numerous publications. The area is often referred to as the "Triangle" to encompass Chapel Hill, just 20 minutes from Durham and Raleigh.
Raleigh is the capital of North Carolina, and the people that live here love it for the weather, the lifestyle, and the beauty of the area. With seven colleges in Raleigh alone, the area is home to numerous restaurants and a lively downtown and arts scene. Area attractions include the North Carolina Museum of Art, which recently reopened after a massive renovation to include an impressive Rodin sculpture garden. Take a segway or rickshaw tour of Historic Oakwood, a neighborhood with Victorian homes built from 1870 - 1912.
While known as a small university town to locals, Durham actually boasts numerous attractions, most notably Duke University which includes the Duke Chapel, Sarah P. Duke Gardens, the famous Cameron Stadium, home to the Duke Blue Devils, and the Durham Bulls Athletic Park made famous by the movie "Bull Durham" in the 1980's.
Just a few minutes away are the old stomping grounds of Michael Jordan in the town of Chapel Hill. A walk down Franklin Street is a great way to get a good feel for this college town and see the campus of UNC. The UNC Basketball Museum recently opened, or if you are a fan of home-style southern cooking, Mama Dips restaurant is close by.
